Seedlings propagated from a commercial hazelnut variety. It can produce edible hazelnuts but is mainly used as an effective host of truffles. Interplanted with oaks it lowers the canopy height to allow infiltration of more light.

Please note: Being grown from seed hazelnut seedlings are not a true copy of the commercial parent variety (because of genetic variability). Hazelnuts require cross pollination from different and compatible varieties in order to produce nuts. Therefore in isolation they will not produce nuts, where a number of trees are planted nearby pollination and nut production is possible but not guaranteed.
